ALYONA GRIGOROVITCH

Abstract

The study of students' mental representations of physics concepts and phenomena is a major objective of science education research. In addition, these representations can play a useful role in teaching. This article presents a study of the mental representations of 210 students aged 7 to 9 on the formation of shadows. We examined the representations of research subjects from an individual interview, before they received systematic teaching at school. Results show that students, have difficulty understanding the formation and the position of a light source in relevance to the shadow.
